COM. LING.- Aioro y Aiora están documentados como nombres de personas en la época medieval. Puede apreciarse que, hasta avanzado el siglo XVII predomina el inicio del vocablo bajo la forma Aie- y que, sin embargo, posteriormente siempre aparece como Aio-. Este hecho se constata no solamente cuando se refiere al oicónimo, sino también cuando hace referencia al apellido. A partir de Aioro, el oicónimo ha evolucionado bajo las formas Aiororena > Aiorenea > Aionea, forma esta última que aparece en el siglo XX y que, al igual que la denominación oral actual, presenta la caída de la sílaba postónica. En la forma viva se produce -e- > -i- ante -a, al igual que en la mayoría de los oicónimos. Cabe, asimismo, señalar que en la actualidad el oicónimo se presenta bajo la forma Aionea y que el apellido sigue manteniendo la forma Aioroa. Se ha podido constatar la existencia de oicónimos similares en otros pueblos, p. ej. Ayoraundia documentado en el catastro del año 1893 en Baraibar y Oiorottena en Irurita.
