COM. LING.- Topónimo cuyo elemento final tal vez sea -ola 'cabaña' , acabado en -ea por analogía con los oicónimos, con -e- > -i- ante -a en la denominación oral. Su inicial Axo- que en la documentación adquiere las formas de Aso- y Acho- resulta muy oscuro. En Etxalar se documenta el oicónimo Asolaborro. Asola es también nombre de caserío y apellido datado desde 1409 en Eibar y existente en la actualidad.
