The goal of ECO is to expand the database of proper names and establish secure relations between information of different kinds (documentary and oral data, alternative names, geopositioning, comments and so on) in the three broad fields of onomastics (given names, surnames and place names). As the volume of data increases, the proposed rules to be formulated will gain a more solid basis, i.e. they are more likely to be taken up in society, which will result in wider access to standardised usage.
