The Pronunciation Commission began its work in 2013 and is the successor to the ephemeral Pronunciation working group (13-04-2011) created by the Directorate of Euskaltzaindia. Its main task is the standardization of Basque pronunciation.
Its main functions along this path are the elaboration, development and dissemination of the Unified Euskera Formal Pronunciation standards published by Euskaltzaindia. In order to counteract the monostylism that would weaken standardization, both in the exclusive use of standard Basque and in the exclusive use of dialects, the aim is to reinforce the role of the unified Basque or batúa, contextualizing the rules of pronunciation. In this way, as a long-term objective, the aim is to place Basque at the main levels of pronunciation, from the unified language to the most minority dialects.
