The main aims of this list are the following: to provide information for parents who wish to know the correct Basque spelling of a given name they have chosen or wish to choose for their daughter or son; to give clear information to all those who wish to change their name or adapt its spelling to the correct academic spelling; to present a wide repertoire of names with useful complementary information for those who wish to know the origin and circumstances of a specific name; to disseminate the Basque variants of classical and historical names for all those who wish to know them or need to use them.

The personal names are presented in three lists: feminine names, masculine names and names that apply indistinctly to men or women (epicenes).
